Jacqueline Jones, M.D., was named Licking Memorial Hospital (LMH) 2002 Physician of the Year during the Annual LMH Medical Staff Reception, held Tuesday, October 1.
A member of Licking Memorial Health Professionals, Dr. Jones is in practice with Licking Memorial Oncology/Hematology. She was selected for the Physician of the Year honor by her peers.
“I’m most surprised about this,” Dr. Jones said from Harvard University, where she is taking a week-long course on the latest developments in oncology and hematology. “I’m pleasantly surprised and thankful to my colleagues.”
Dr. Jones’ name will be added to a commemorative board located in the Doctors’ Lounge on the first floor of Licking Memorial Hospital, and she will receive a plaque and a $100 gift certificate.
A member of the Licking Memorial Health Systems medical staff since 1992, Dr. Jones earned her medical degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL.
She completed her medical residency in internal medicine at St. Louis University Hospitals in St. Louis, MO; and a fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of Florida.
In addition to Dr. Jones, nominees for Physician of the Year were inpatient medicine specialist Khanh Dang, M.D; and radiologist Joseph Fondriest, M.D.
According to award criteria, nominees must display the following: care and concern for patients, clinical knowledge, relationship to peers, and relationship to hospital staff.
In addition to naming the Physician of the Year during the annual reception, new medical staff appointees who have joined the Health Systems since October 2001 were introduced, and service awards were given to those who have reached milestones in the number of years they have been associated with LMH.
