State Representative David R. Evans, of Newark, says, the Statehouse needs new volunteers to guide tours at Ohio's capital building.

Volunteer tour guides are needed to escort groups of visitors around our Statehouse. Successful volunteer enjoy history, particularly Ohio history, and feel that introducing schoolchildren to Ohio history and the workings of state government is important. They also enjoy the opportunity to show the Ohio Statehouse to visitors from all over the world.

"Our Statehouse is truly a beautiful structure with a very rich history," commented Evans. "Many people in Licking County take part in tours of the Statehouse. I urge you to help others enjoy what I am so privileged to enjoy on a regular basis."

Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. The volunteer commitment includes attending a training session and agreeing to work one morning or afternoon a week (4 hour shift). In return volunteers receive free parking, a discount at the Statehouse gift shop, opportunities for further learning, an annual recognition event, and a sense of satisfaction about sharing the wonders of the Statehouse and Ohio with visitors from around the world.

For more information about volunteer tour guide opportunities at the Statehouse or to sign up for the August training session, please contact Becky Wildman in the Statehouse Museum Shop at 614-728-9234.
