Muskingum College will now be known as Muskingum University after the Board of Trustees voted to change the name.
Muskingum has been classified as a university since 1989.
Dean of Enrollment Jeff Zellers says the name change will help Muskingum internationally and the increasing number of graduate students prompted the change.
Zellers says that Muskingum wants to emphasize it will still maintain a small college feel.
“There is absolutely no organizational or structural change to the institution, nor is there a change in the delivery of our educational programs to our traditional undergraduate students.”
Zellers says Muskingum now has about 1500 students participating in graduate programs compared to about 50 in 1990.
