Reynoldsburg City Schools have taken the next step to put an operating levy on the November ballot.

Officials say the school board approved a Resolution of Necessity for the operating levy Tuesday.

The 6.9-mill levy would generate $5.8 million per year to pay for the day-to-day expenses of the school district.

Voters last approved an operating levy in 1997.

Since then, the district has opened Slate Ridge Elementary, Waggoner Road Middle School and Waggoner Road Junior High with no additional operating revenue.

The board will be asked to approve a second resolution in the coming weeks to make the request official by the Aug. 21 election filing deadline.

If passed, the owner of a $100,000 home would pay $17.60 a month.
