The national best-selling novel, “A Million Little Pieces,” recounts the author’s life as a criminal, drug addict and alcoholic, but recently it has become the subject of controversy.

The Smoking Gun web site has questioned the credibility of the book and claims that the author, James Frey, embellished or fabricated the story.

In the book, Frey recounts an incident shortly after his graduation from Denison University when he ran over a Granville police officer with his car when he was drunk and belligerent.

The officer involved in the incident, Sgt. Dave Dudgeon, says he was never hit by the car and that Frey was polite and cooperative.

On his website, Frey responded to the accusations by stating that he supports his book and his life.

Frey’s book became a hit after Oprah Winfrey made it one of her book club picks.

To date, 3.5 million copies of the book have been sold.
