The Granville Post of the State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash on State Route 79 Thursday morning that killed one man and sent a woman to the hospital.

At around 6:30 a.m., 41-year-old Steven Wright of St. Louisville was traveling north on 79 near Fallsburg Road and tried to pass a garbage truck.

Wright saw oncoming traffic so he attempted to swerve back into his lane, but hit the truck that had stopped for a pick up.

62-year-old Sharon Davis of Newark was traveling in the opposite lane and hit Wright’s car, while 38-year-old Robert Fleetwood of Newark, who was traveling behind Davis, then side-swiped her car.

Wright was pronounced dead at the scene and Davis was Med Flighted to OSU Hospital in Columbus.

There were no other injuries in the accident.

The crash is still under investigation.

Another Newark man was killed in a Mary Ann Township crash early Thursday morning.

Around 12 a.m. Thursday morning, 23-year-old Randall Gwynn was headed south on State Route 79, when he lost control of his car, went off the left side of the road, hit a ditch and flipped.

The State Highway Parol says Gwynn died at the scene.

The crash is under investigation.
