Point A to Point B in Columbus

(COLUMBUS) - The following work is scheduled to occur on the posted dates. Inclement weather may delay these projects.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 2

Interstate 70/71 Split (Downtown) (NEW) Crews will be working along the shoulders in the I-70/I-71 split (both directions) from 8 p.m. to midnight, for guardrail repair. All lanes will be open, but motorists should use caution as crews will be working close to the roadway.

U.S. Route 62 (Northeast Side) One lane of two-way traffic will be maintained with a flagger on U.S. 62, just north of Morse Road from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for pavement repair. Motorists should expect delays.

Interstate 670 (Downtown) Various lane closures on I-670 (both directions) near Cleveland Avenue, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for median repair. Completion date: September 8.

Interstate 71 (South Side) Various lane closures on I-71 (both directions) between the Pickaway County line and Greenlawn Avenue from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly (Monday through Friday nights) for pavement repair. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. Completion date: September 10.

State Route 161 (Northeast Side) Minor paving and pavement repair on SR 161 from the Franklin/Licking County line to Hamilton Road will continue. There will be various lane closures nightly from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. There may also be short-term ramp closures on the following ramps:

· Hamilton Road

· New Albany Road

· U.S. Route 62/Main Street

Completion date: September 10.

Interstate 71 (North Side) - Various lane closures on I-71 in both directions from just north of Polaris Parkway to Park Rd. from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly so crews can set barrier to begin construction of a new interchange just north of Polaris Parkway. At least two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction. Completion date: Summer 2006.

Interstate 270 (North Side) - I-270 eastbound will be reduced to three lanes between Sawmill Road and State Route 315 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily for noise wall work. In addition, the ramp from Sawmill Rd to I-270 eastbound will be restricted but OPEN during this time. Motorists should expect delays and use caution on the ramp. Completion date: end of October.

U.S. Route 40/Main Street (East Side) –This week, August 30 through September 3, there will be various lane closures from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily for pavement marking, guardrail work and pavement sensors. Completion date: Fall 2004.

State Route 674 (Southeast Side) - Periodic lane closures on SR 674 (both directions) between Lithopolis Road and Smith Road from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily for gas line replacement. Flaggers will be in place to direct traffic. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. Completion date: mid-October 2004.

State Route 665 (Southwest Side) – SR 665 is CLOSED to all through traffic (but open to local traffic) between Lambert Road and Norton Road. Detour is to take Lambert Road to Norton Road to SR 665 or reverse for the opposite direction. Completion date: end of September.

Sunbury Road (Northeast Side) - Sunbury Road is permanently reduced to one lane in each direction (and a turn lane wherever possible) from just south of State Route 161 to Valley Quail Blvd. for major reconstruction. Completion date: Fall 2006.

State Route 161 (Northeast Side) – VARIOUS LANE CLOSURES ON SR 161 IN BOTH DIRECTIONS BETWEEN SR 3 AND I-270 FROM 9 A.M. TO 3 P.M. DAILY FOR GUARDRAIL WORK. COMPLETION DATE: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 3. SR 161 is permanently reduced to two lanes in each direction between State Route 3 and Little Turtle Way for major reconstruction. There will be lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. Any additional lane or ramp closures will be announced. Completion Date: Fall 2006. In addition, the ramps at Little Turtle Way and SR 161 are restricted, but OPEN so crews can begin reconstruction. There are also new lane assignments and restrictions on Little Turtle Way, Old 161 and Cherry Bottom Road. These restrictions will remain in place through the rest of this construction season.

Interstate 270 (Northeast Side) – I-270 NORTHBOUND (ONLY) WILL BE REDUCED TO TWO LANES UNDER THE DEMPSEY ROAD BRIDGE FROM 9 A.M. TO 2 P.M. FOR DRAINAGE WORK. COMPLETION DATE: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 3. Traffic on I-270 is permanently reduced to three 11-foot lanes between State Route 3 and Easton Way for major reconstruction. There will be lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. I-270 will be reduced to two lanes in each direction at 8 p.m. and to one lane in each direction at 10 p.m. nightly. Any additional lane or ramp closures will be announced. Completion date: Fall 2006.

Dempsey Road (Northeast Side) - The Dempsey Road bridge over Interstate 270 is CLOSED for 150 days for lengthening. Completion date: January 2005. Detour: State Route 3 to State Route 161 east to Sunbury Road to Dempsey Road.

Hamilton/Gender Road (Southeast Side) – U.S. ROUTE 33 WESTBOUND (ONLY) WILL BE REDUCED TO ONE LANE UNDER THE GENDER ROAD BRIDGE FROM 9 A.M. TO 2 P.M. FOR BRIDGE WORK. Crews are repairing the bridge decks of the Hamilton and Gender Road bridges over U.S. Route 33. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on each bridge. Motorists should EXPECT DELAYS. There will also be various lane closures on U.S. 33 at night, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. throughout the project. In addition, the ramp from Hamilton Road north to U.S. 33 west is CLOSED for 25 days. Detour: Take Winchester Pike west to U.S. 33. The ramp will be open mid-to late September. Completion date for the project: October.

U.S. Route 33 (West Side) - Retaining wall repair on U.S. Route 33 between Lane Road and Henderson Road. One lane will be maintained in each direction with crews working behind barrier on the shoulders. Motorists should slow down and use caution in this area as construction equipment will be moving in and out of the work zone frequently. Completion date: Spring 2005.

Interstate 270 (Southwest Side) - Major reconstruction and pavement replacement on I-270 on the south side of Columbus from I-71 to just west of U.S. 62. Two lanes are maintained in each direction on I-270 during peak hours using temporary pavement. There will be various lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on U.S. 62, under I-270, throughout the project. The following ramps are closed through mid-November, 2004:

· U.S. 62 south to I-270 east. Traffic is maintained with a temporary signal to turn left onto the ramp from U.S. 62 north to I-270 east.

· Ramp from I-270 east to U.S. 62. Detour is to take I-270 east to Interstate 71, turn around and take I-270 west to U.S. 62. Completion date for this seasons work: Mid-November.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 6

State Route 104 (Southwest Side) Traffic on SR 104 between the Pickaway County line and Frank Road will be maintained with a flagger from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily for pavement repair. Completion date: September 15.
