Friends of the Captain Scott Committee in Alexandria say there is little time left to save the historic house.
A banner has been placed at the house, located at the intersection of State Routes 161 and 37 to encourage residents to donate funds and work on the committee.
ODOT awarded the house to the village of Alexandria at the end of November.
The state says removal of the house has to be wrapped up no later than March 16, 2007.
A meeting will be held on Jan 11 at 7 p.m. at the Alexandria United Methodist Church for interested persons.
