1. Why are you running for Common Pleas Court Judge?

I am running for judge for two reasons. First, this is another chance for me to serve my community. I know from first-hand experience as a long time felony prosecutor how important the job of judge is. I know that we need someone experienced in dealing with Common Pleas Court. Our next judge should be someone who has demonstrated the fortitude and toughness needed to handle the pressure in dealing with the most important of cases. Second, I am running because I believe that I am the best candidate for the job. I have been a felony prosecutor for almost 9 years. I have handled murder, rape, robbery, burglary, and drug cases. I have been before the Common Pleas Court on an almost daily basis. I think that the citizens of Licking County deserve someone with that level of experience to be their next Common Pleas Court judge.

2. Should the judicial candidates be associated with a political party? Why or why not?

Judicial candidates are already associated with political parties to a certain extent. We run in political primaries and, during the primary campaign season, we can even advertise that we belong to a certain political party. After the primary, our election is official nonpartisan. Although even then we are allowed to tell people what political party we endorsed by. If we are going to elect judges, then the citizens should have ready access to all of the relevant information about their judges. I know from personal experience that many people want to know to which political party I belong. It seems to me that as long as we are having partisan primaries, candidates should be allowed to tell people what political party they belong to. However, it is my duty to follow the law regardless of my beliefs about it. Therefore, I will fully and completely comply with my duties regarding the advertisement of my political party affiliation.

3. Why are you a qualified candidate for Common Pleas Court Judge?

I have been an Assistant Licking County Prosecutor for almost 9 years. During that time, I have been responsible for putting some of the most dangerous criminals behind bars. I have successfully prosecuted murderers, rapists, and drug dealers. Most importantly, my work places me before the Common Pleas Court on a nearly daily basis. As a result, I have a first-hand understanding of the Court’s administration, procedures, and responsibilities. I am confident I will be able to draw upon this experience to effectively serve as judge.
Prior to working at our Prosecutor’s Office, I was an Assistant Attorney General during Betty Montgomery’s administration. I graduated fourth in my law school class at Ohio Northern University where I was also on Law Review. During my time at Ohio Northern I was President of the Criminal Law Society and a judicial extern for Judge Rice of the United States District Court in Dayton.
I am the best candidate because I have the most experience in Common Pleas Court. I have performed under pressure while handling the most important cases. A judge in Common Pleas Court is literally making life or death decisions. I think our county deserves someone who has had that level of experience. That is why I believe that I am the most qualified candidate for Common Pleas Court judge.

4. If elected, how long will you serve as Common Pleas Court Judge?

I would serve as Common Pleas Court judge for as long as the citizens of this county would continue to elect me.
