The village of Johnstown has appointed Chris Speck to fill an open seat on council.

Officials say Speck was tapped to fill the unexpired term of Cletus Beam after four people applied for the position.

Speck is a member of Downtown Johnstown Inc. and works at K-Ceps in Johnstown.

He is a 2002 graduate of Johnstown –Monroe High School. Beam resigned from council a few weeks ago citing health reasons.

Beam had been on council since 1973.
