Things continue to move along for Denison University.
President Dr. Dale Knobel says they recently opened the Bryant Arts Center which is next to the Cleveland Hall which has an interesting history.
“It was called Cleveland Hall, not for someone named Cleveland, but because a group of supporters of Denison from the Cleveland area led by John D. Rockefeller, who built the Standard Oil empire and was on the Denison Board of Trustees.”
He says Rockefeller made the gift before the board kicked him off.
“The charter of the college at that time called for all of trustees at that time to be Ohio Baptist laymen and just as John D. Rockefeller made it big and moved off to New York City with the great Standard Oil trust, we said he’s no longer an Ohioan, we gotta see him go.”
Knobel says they do have some more building projects on the horizon including a renovation/expansion of their chemistry building
