A former volunteer Whitehall auxiliary police officer faced a western Ohio judge accused of trying to kill his ex-girlfriend.

Joshua Gearhart pleaded not guilty to assault and abduction charges in Montgomery County.

Authorities say Gearhart tried to drown his ex-girlfriend in a ditch along a stretch of road near Dayton on Sunday

He remains held on a $500,000 bond.
