Various agencies are dealing with a major diesel fuel spill throughout Licking County.
“We have a diesel spill from SR668 and Rte 40 west to Linnville Pike, north on Linnville into Newark, down National Drive, across Calburn Street, up 6th street to Tectum and that’s where the truck was stopped.”
Jeff Walker is with the Licking County EMA and explains what caused the leak.
“This is fuel right out of the tank into the engine. This was a leak on top of the engine that wasn’t realized by the driver until he got into Newark.”
Walker says that the fuel acts like ice when combined with the rain that may have caused an injury accident near Flint Ridge Road around 10 a.m.
“We’re going to have to sand it and go back and take a look at major turns and intersections where there is more fuel spilled. We’ll do it as quickly as possible. We’ve got the Sttae highway, county highway and city of Newark working to get it cleaned up.”
Walker says it will be early afternoon before the entire situation has been cleaned up.
