Officials are looking into what caused a barn fire on Railroad Street in Newark Monday morning.
Newark Fire Assistant Chief John Clouse says they got the call around 8:30 a.m.
“We could actually see the heavy smoke and flames from Central Station and we actually responded before we were dispatched because we saw the smoke and flames. It was an old barn fully involved.”
Clouse says it was a tough one to fight because all flames were showing on all sides of the building.
Dale Price lives on Poplar Avenue near the barn and noticed the flames when he went outside to feed some cats.
“I looked up and felt this heat and smoke and above that roof the flames had be 20or 30 feet in the air. The smoke was so high you couldn’t even hardly see it. Just black smoke pouring out of it.”
The barn is considered a total loss. The fire is being investigated as a possible arson and officials say Newark Fire received a report of unauthorized individuals in the area before the blaze.
