Folks in Gratiot are on the verge of having better water.

Director of Licking County Water/Wastewater Kevin Eby says the EPA went to Gratiot officials with concerns about the village’s current system.

“There are three systems that have 20 to 30 customers each that are not up to code so to speak and the EPA has addressed those with water systems and are requiring them to bring them up to current standards.”

Eby says village officials approached Licking County to help out to bring the systems up to code.

He says if the county were to install a system and maintain it, then there would have to be a proper rate set.

“We have had several meetings with village officials and residents stating where we stand and that we could help them and we are willing to assist them any way we can.”

Eby adds they are in the preliminary stages of coming up with a general contract or agreement of how an improvement can be made.
