The home of a New Straitsville firefighter is considered a total loss after a fire early Friday morning.

Crews reported to the home on Van Hyde Street just after 2:30am and found heavy smoke.

The flooring had burned through the basement and firefighters remained on the scene until nearly 7am Friday.

Officials believe it was an electrical fire. The name of the owner is not being released.

The home was insured.
