|Annual Event is Held on the CH Square|
The Newark Rodders Car Club is getting ready for its annual “Light the Night” car show on the court square on Saturday (September 6th).
Organizer Jim Matheny says registration starts at 9 a.m...
“Registration is ten dollars this year. It includes a door prize and dash plaque to the first 450
vehicles. Registration starts at nine, it runs until four p.m in the gazebo, and then awards are at
8 p.m. on the east side of the square.”
The car show, which raises money for the Courthouse Christmas lighting, is in its 23rd year...
“All proceeds from this show do go to the Courthouse Lighting Committee to light the courthouse at Christmastime. Years ago, well, 23 years ago actually, Licking County needed funds to light the courthouse. And along with a couple other car clubs–and we are the only remaining car club–we came up with this name. ‘Light the Night’ meant to light the courthouse at Christmastime. And that’s how that name was born.”
Matheny says the car show is a good family outing and admission is free...
“Light the Night is a family function. Every year you’ll see thousands of people walking around the square, in good weather. And it’s just amazing because there’s something for everybody. If you come down to the square, you’ll see everything from Model As, Model Ts...you’ll see street rods and classics and muscle cars, retro rods, limited production vehicles.”
Hundreds of cars are expected for the show, along with live music and vendors on the square. More than 50 six-foot trophies will be awarded this year.
