Over $112,000 has been awarded to help emergency food and shelter programs in Licking County.

Sylvia Friel with the Licking County United Way explains what the funds will be used for.

“those funds are to assist with individuals in need of food assistance, sheltering, rent, mortgage, and utility assistance and that sort of thing.”

She says the agencies applying to receive some of the money must meet certain criteria.

She adds that with the dollars they received last year, a number of Licking County residents were helped.

“Individuals were assisted with 4,368 nights of shelter; 152 households were assisted with rent and mortgage assistance; 593, 304 meals were served.”
