It’s the offseason for hockey teams but there’s still plenty of news surrounding the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Voice of the Jackets George Matthews joined WCLT/ T-100 at Stacy’s Homestyle Buffet in Heath Tuesday.

Matthews has high hopes for defenseman John Moore, the Blue Jackets first pick in last weekends’ NHL Draft, but Matthews says it’s unknown if Columbus can re-sign Center Manny Malhotra.

The club also hopes to sign Rick Nash to a long term extension this offseason

The team shuffled broadcasting crews after the season and Matthews wants to thank fans for supporting him as play-by-play man.

“I really want to let the fans know that Bill and I really appreciated the support we got," Matthews said. "It was something that certainly caught us by surprise and it just makes you feel that each and every night we try to call those playoff games, when it’s all said and done, it’s worthwhile.”

Radio analyst Bill Davidge will join the TV crew this year and the club hopes to name Matthews new partner in the coming weeks.
